TOPIC: Christians’ focus on eternal bliss
TEXTS: Eccle 1:1-18
AIMS:
i. to appraise the vanity of this world and
ii. to expatiate on reasons for a heavenly focus instead of earthly wealth accumulation.
INTRODUCTION
Vanity in the words of the preacher implies the pointlessness of all human
activities in this world. The futility in accumulating wealth, fame, position and knowledge is a pointer to us as Christians that this world is not ours, but heaven, where we have our citizenship to enjoy eternal bliss with God. Is it a crime then to be wealthy? This and other salient points on our eternal focus will be discussed in this study.
STUDY GUIDES
1a. Analyze Eccle. 1:1-18 and explain the vanity of this World? Is it a crime to acquire worldly values? Read Deut 8:18.
2. What is eternal Bliss in the context of Rev 7:16-17 and Rev 21:4? Differentiate eternal Bliss from the toiling of this world.
3. How can you explain the loss of focus on eternal bliss among Christians in our generation? Explain in the context of prosperity sermons. Ro 8:5; 16:17-18; Phil 3:17-19.
4. From the text, why should Christians focus on eternal bliss more than worldly values? Mt 6:19-20; (Matt 19:16-24).
CONCLUSION
As Christians, we must always see the futility and limitations of investing what we are and have in
this world and focus on heaven; our eternal home, where we shall enjoy perfect happiness and eternal peace with God
.
