STUDY 3: 2ND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

TOPIC: Dreams
TEXT: Genesis 41:17-37
AIMS:
i. to show the importance of dreams from a Biblical perspective and
ii. to ascertain if all Dreams are actually from God
INTRODUCTION:
Dreams are a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during sleep. Dreams can summarily be said to be hallucinations that occur during certain stages of sleep. The Bible gives many accounts of God revealing Himself and His will to people through dreams. Some of these pieces of evidence are the focus of our discussion today.
STUDY GUIDE
1. In your own understanding, explain dreams
2. From our text (Genesis 41:33-37) what was God’s plan for Pharaoh and Joseph through the dreams?
3. Are all dreams from God according to the following passages Eccl. 5:3; Jeremiah 23:25-27; 1John. 4:1.
4. With reference to Matt 2:13-15, 19-20, what could be the consequence of disobeying the voice of God through dreams?
CONCLUSION
While dreams are common experiences of humanity, God used them in specific ways to reveal the truth of His mission, purpose to His people. It is, therefore, necessary for us to know that Godly oriented dreams emanate from the spirit and carry specific messages from the Lord.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Godly thoughts results in Godly dreams.
MEMORY VERSE: Matt 2:13 “And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him”
