ii.to study the biblical impact of prayers for rulers.
INTRODUCTION
As Christians, we have the obligation to pray for our rulers and leaders for excellent delivery of their duties at all levels. We must pray that peace and tranquility will continue to reign in our society. The Bible passage today exhorts all believers to pray for everybody. Paul specially singled out kings and all in authority who must never be neglected. Ancient and modern rulers can sometimes be tyrannical, and even disrespectful of the Lord and His people. The Church can be victims of bitterness and animosity. Therefore, for peaceful co-existence we need God’s intervention through our continuous intercessions for our leaders and rulers.
STUDY GUIDE
1. Why is it necessary to pray for our rulers? Discuss in line with 1Tim 2:1-4; Dan 2:12-13, 16-19.
2. Why did Daniel pray for the king who held him captive? Dan 2:46-49See Jer 29:7; In your view,
what could have happened if Daniel had not interceded for the king according to Dan 2:12-13?
3.As Christians, why should we pray for our rulers whether good or bad and for our Church leaders? Eph 6:18-20; Col 4:3; 1Thess 3:1
4. What is your opinion on the issue of “Prayer Contractors” or political Prayer Warriors, and their effect on the church? See Jer 6:13; Micah 3:5, 11-12, Micah 7:3
CONCLUSION
As it has always been, we will always have both good and bad rulers in our contemporary world. Our spiritual attitude towards them should be that of prayer for support. With our prayer and responsive love to whatever they do, God Almighty will intervene and even bring some of them to Himself and like Daniel, we may even become their spiritual mentors.
FOOD FOR THOUHT: Prayer is the fiery furnace that can remold a king’s heart changing it from worst to best.
MEMORY VERSE: Jer 29:7 “And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace”.
