INTRODUCTION
One of the easiest ways to recognize an unfaithful government or leadership is failure to keep their promises to the people they govern. The topic today is unfaithfulness as one of the characteristics of ungodly rulers. Unfaithfulness is the neglect or violation of vows, promises, allegiance or other duty. It is the breach of confidence or trust reposed; in a person who leads others treachery. Its examples include: the unfaithfulness of a husband to his wife or vice versa, the unfaithfulness of an agent, servant or officer to his king or the state or vice versa. What are the adverse consequences of unfaithfulness on the lives of men and nations?Luke 12:47-48
STUDY GUIDE
1. Reflect on the study text (Deut 4:25-27) and explain unfaithfulness as a Christian.
2. Discuss from the happenings around us, the unfaithfulness of married partners, parents’ unfaithfulness to children and leaders’ unfaithfulness to their subjects?
3. Critically examine Luke 4:17-21 and analyze how Jesus was faithful to His manifesto. Compare this with contemporary political manifestos and discuss how faithful or not rulers have been to their promises.
4. What is God’s punishment for unfaithfulness either at national or family level? Deut 4:25-27; Ezek 14:13; 15:6-8;
CONCLUSION
At whatever level we find ourselves, faithfulness remain germane to excellence. Whoever is not faithful to his promises or vows either to God or to people they govern or lead, will one day leave the position and the remembrance of their failure will be with mockery.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Unfaithfulness is a pathway that leads to dishonor.
MEMORY VERSE: Ezek 15:8 “Thus I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’” declares the Lord God”.
